Brief description:

This is a review of the first English translation of August Wilhelm Schlegel’s Vorlessungen über schöne Litteratur und Kunst (1803-1804). Hazlitt expresses his disagreement with the German author’s high regard of Spanish literature, which he dismisses with a passing reference to Cervantes, Calderón and Lope de Vega.

Spanish authors mentioned:

Pedro Calderón de la Barca (1600-1681)
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547-1616)
Félix Lope de Vega (1562-1635)
