Title of the Review/Article:
Horae Hispanicae. The Moorish Ballads (Article no. I)
Brief overview and description of Muslim Spain and how both Muslim and Christian cultures co-habited in the Peninsula. The author praises the artistical and scientific creation of this ‘liberal’ period, particularly its poetry and ballads. On the other hand, modern Spain is harshly criticised as a bigoted and ignorant country. The article includes a translation of the ballad “El señor de Buitrago”, an extract in Spanish of the ballad of Bernardo, and a translation into English of “Muerte de doña Blanca”.
